Healing with ginger

This article is also available in Italian.

I wanted to tell you how to cure cough and cold.
Children are much more sensitive than us adults and the winter and spring are the most difficult periods. In most cases it is caused by viruses and is manifested by inflammation of the mucosa of the nose.

Giulia Fulghesu in his book “Alimentazione naturale dallo svezzamento all’adolescenza” Julia Fulghesu in his book says that children who are defined as “fragile” because often contracted a cold, except for rare cases of hereditary situations, it is not fair to call this way.
In fact these children are often cooled due to too many antibiotics combined with bad eating habits.

Antibiotics are effective on bacteria but not viruses, and unfortunately, they are often used in excess or improperly used. The use of the antibiotic affects the balance of intestinal flora, thus leading to a lowering of immune defenses.

According to holistic medicine, the our body needs a cold, to expel toxins that the body was not able to eject, through the organs responsible for elimination of wastes. This means that to prevent and treat a cold is necessary that the body is in good condition.

Hence the usefulness of herb teas made from ginger, orange juice, carrot juice, apple and cranberry juice, vegetable broths. From the same book, it is advisable, to encourage a rapid improvement, delete from the menu of the child, dairy, meat, ham and other foods of animal origin and of course all food industrial type.

For a child after a year, I use to put half teaspoon of honey in warm milk before bed.

To strengthen the immune system I discovered the useful properties of ginger which apparently has many beneficial properties, then I will list a few.

But meanwhile, here’s my recipe for ginger tea to strengthen the immune system:

  • Take a pan and heat 1 liter of water. Just a little ginger (2-3 thin slices) to have the desired effect. It is necessary to peel the outer skin of ginger, harder, and cut it into slices (or grated), then add it to warm water. Finally, before you drink, add lemon juice and, if you like sugar or honey.

The ginger is considered an aromatic plant and, as I said, its properties are many. Its flavor is spicy, so when you make your tea, be careful not to put too much.

Its main action is decongestant and digestive; ; protective of intestine, bronchi and lungs. Therefore suitable to treat colds, coughs, but also headache, vomiting, diarrhea caused by cold and catarrh. Reduces all symptoms associated with motion sickness including dizziness, nausea, vomiting and sweating.

It has been shown to be very helpful in reducing nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, even the most severe form, hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that usually requires hospitalization. Unlike anti-vomiting drugs that can cause serious birth defects, ginger is extremely safe, and requires only a small dose.

Ginger is also a powerful anti inflammatory to reduce pain for people with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis and improve their mobility.

With gingerols, ginger can inhibit the growth of cancer cells of colorectal cancer so that the University of Minnesota has already applied for a patent for the use of gingerol as an anti-cancer agent.

Ginger causes ovarian cancer cells to death. Experiments have shown that exposure to ginger extract caused cell death in all lines of ovarian cancer studied.

Can help promote healthy sweating, which is often helpful during colds and influences. A good sweat may do more than just detoxification. German researchers recently found that sweat contains a potent agent that can help to fight infection.

Recipe for nausea:

  • The ginger tea is made by steeping one or two slices of 2 mm of fresh ginger, in a cup of hot water. Probably it will be sufficient to put in order the stomach.

For arthritis:

  • Some people have found relief by consuming just a small piece of fresh ginger cooked in food, although in some studies, patients who consumed more ginger reported quicker and better relief.

Whenever possible, choose fresh ginger, not only for flavor but also because it contains higher levels of gingerol (the anti-inflammatory compound). Even better if you find it from organic farming for more guarantees.

Fresh ginger can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three weeks, in the freezer for up to six months.

Ginger powder must be stored in a glass container, tightly sealed, in a cool, dark and dry place. Alternatively, you can store it in the refrigerator, where it will have a long life of about one year.
